घटना 13 अगस्त की है, जब स्कूल के टॉयलेट में दो किंडरगार्टन की बच्चियों के साथ सफाईकर्मियों ने यौन शोषण किया। इसके बाद 16 अगस्त को एक बच्ची ने अपने माता-पिता को इस घटना के बारे में बताया, फिर आरोपी अक्षय शिंदे को 17 अगस्त को गिरफ्तार किया गया।
इस मामले में स्कूल की संबंधित प्रधानाध्यापिका को लापरवाही के लिए निलंबित कर दिया गया है। साथ ही, बच्चों की देखभाल करने वाले दो नौकरों को भी बर्खास्त कर दिया गया है।
मंगलवार को प्रदर्शनकारियों ने पुलिस कर्मियों पर पत्थर फेंके और विरोध प्रदर्शन के दौरान स्कूल की इमारत में तोड़फोड़ की। पुलिस ने प्रदर्शनकारियों पर लाठीचार्ज किया।
रेल सेवाएं बंद कर दी गई, इंटरनेट सेवाओं पर भी रोक लगा दी गई, हालांकि बाद में लोकल ट्रेन सेवाएं फिर से शुरू कर दी गईं और इंटरनेट भी बहाल कर दिया गया।
मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे ने इस मामले पर एलान किया कि आरोपियों पर सख्त कार्रवाई की जाएगी और फास्ट ट्रैक कोर्ट में तत्काल मुकदमा चलाने का आदेश दिया है।
इस मामले में राष्ट्रीय बाल अधिकार संरक्षण आयोग (एनसीपीसीआर) का कहना है कि मामले की जांच के लिए एक टीम बदलापुर जाएगी।
उप मुख्यमंत्री एवं गृहमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने मामले में SIT का गठन किया है। वरिष्ठ आईपीएस अधिकारी आरती सिंह की अध्यक्षता में मामले की जांच की जाएगी।
